INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM IN AFRICA OR INDIA

COLLEGE FOR INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

CICD – College for International Co-operation and Development is a residential school in the UK offering 7-, 10-, and 12-month programs through a combination of theoretical and practical international studies. Volunteers are sent on placements through the school's partner organizations—Richmond Vale Academy and Humana People to People—to Africa, India, or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Since 1998, CICD has trained more than 1,500 volunteers, development instructors, and climate activists from all age groups, nationalities, religions, and backgrounds. The school also prides itself on having a large global community and strong following around the world.

Most members of the Planetrise Association also began their journeys at CICD. We have maintained a close partnership with the organization since 2004 and regularly support the placement of volunteers in African projects.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The official name of the program is Poverty Activist—a 12-month volunteer initiative that allows participants to gain in-depth knowledge of global social and economic challenges while actively contributing to the support of communities in developing countries.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE:

5-months of Preparation in England: Participants live within the CICD community and engage in international studies that combine theoretical and practical elements. They explore rapid global changes, the driving forces of development, and the historical roots of poverty. In addition to academic training, they take an active part in daily school life, including food sourcing, cooking, cleaning, building maintenance, and communal living.

6-months of Fieldwork in Africa or India: In collaboration with the Humana People to People organization, volunteers work on various development projects such as child and adult education, health campaigns, food security, and environmental sustainability. Specific tasks are planned in advance to ensure effective and targeted support.

1-month of Experience Sharing: At the end of the program, participants reflect on and summarize their experiences and results. These are shared through various platforms and public presentations, raising awareness and inspiring others to take action.

Qualification: International Development Instructor (Certificate)
Scholarship: Available for EU citizens
Project countries: Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique or India
