XVIII. AHU Medical Mission in Malawi

06/11/2018

For the 18th time, Hungarian doctors are traveling to Malawi under the coordination of the African Hungarian Union (AHU) – once again led by our member, Csaba Szeremley. This time, four neurosurgeons and one anesthesiologist have embarked on a two-week mission to one of Africa's poorest countries, where they will perform life-saving surgeries. To put things into perspective: there is currently only one practicing neurosurgeon in all of Malawi.

In addition to coordinating and hosting, Csaba is also documenting the mission through photography and short films, and on their days off, he takes the doctors to visit some of the country's most beautiful sites.

The mission team includes: Dr. László Szegedi, Dr. Gábor Nagy, Dr. Attila Bagó, Dr. Dávid Nagy, and Dr. József Kelemen.

They are also joined by two volunteers from the Helping Angels  Foundation: Adrienn Kamarás and Hubert Hlatky-Schlichter, who supported the Hungarian Day organized at the Jacaranda School by preparing a traditional Hungarian goulash soup for all 408 students – with Csaba lending a hand. Adrienn also made 500 coconut balls together with the students.
