Planetrise II. Ethiopian Medical Mission Launches Soon
The Planetrise II. Ethiopian Medical Mission is about to begin. On May 25, 2024, a medical mission organized by our Association and the Institute of African Studies at Óbuda University will depart for the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Over the course of two weeks, five Hungarian doctors will assist their local colleagues in their work.
The team members are Dr. Edina Pálinkás and Dr. Kinga Jakab-Péter, both otolaryngologists, and Dr. Gábor Nagy and Dr. Dávid Nagy, both neurosurgeons. The surgeons' work will be supported by Dr. Máté Bata, an anesthesiologist. In response to the successful outcome of the first mission conducted in 2023, this mission has been organized at the request of the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, with the help of the Embassy of Hungary in Ethiopia. The Embassy has provided strong coordination in the preparation and during the stay in Ethiopia.
On May 12, a preparation session was held for the doctors by the staff of the Institute of African Studies at Óbuda University. Dr. Marianna Kármán, an African studies expert, introduced Ethiopia, highlighting its main geographical, cultural, religious, and linguistic features. A safety awareness expert shared essential information with the team. After lunch, Krisztina Tóth, a mental health expert, took over the session. During the two-and-a-half-hour training, the mission members discussed several topics that will assist them in their work in a culture very different from Central Europe.
The main sponsor of the Association's medical mission to Ethiopia is Hungary Helps - Hungary's Aid Program.
