EU Day in Malawi
In 2017, EU Day was organised for the third time in Malawi, with Hungary participating with its own stand for the second consecutive year. Hungary was represented by the Hungarian Africa Society (AHU) and the Hungarian Trade and Cultural Centre (HTCC).
The organisations were represented by Planetrise Association member Csaba Szeremley, who this time was supported in his work by Nóra Barbara Martényi. Nóra arrived in Malawi for one month as a forerunner of the 16th AHU medical mission, with her main task being the assessment of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre from the perspective of future missions.
The stand offered visitors a variety of Hungarian specialities, including two types of pálinka, Unicum, Bull's Blood wine (Bikavér), goose and duck crackling bites, two kinds of Mangalica salami, Túró Rudi, and apple crisps. Alongside these culinary delights, leaflets and small promotional items from AHU and HTCC were also very popular among the several hundred attendees.
EU Ambassador Marchel Gerrmann personally thanked Csaba Szeremley for Hungary's participation, acknowledging the effort even though Hungary currently has no diplomatic representation in Malawi—not even at the level of an honorary consul.
