Program Series: Fight Against Poverty
Throughout the history of humanity, poverty has always been present, but in recent times, it has perhaps become more widespread and is increasingly manifesting in more extreme forms. It appears as vast social disparities and is an increasingly frequent occurrence, with rapid impoverishment happening in various contexts.
Within our program titled Fight Against Poverty, we planned to organise 8 events, where we would discuss the nature of poverty, the related facts and misconceptions, as well as the contradictions surrounding it, with the youth of Kisvárda and its surrounding areas. Another goal of the program was to raise awareness among young people about tangible everyday events and circumstances that can easily lead individuals, families, and even entire communities down the path of impoverishment. Furthermore, we aimed to show that there is a way out of poverty and to highlight the available solutions.
The ultimate goal of the program was, in fact, the prevention of impoverishment. Our hope was that the young people participating in the program would begin to think and act more consciously, practicing a more mindful approach to life, which would contribute to the development of a more sustainable life for themselves and their families.
The planned 8 events were carried out over a total of 88 hours. Each event involved 15-30 secondary school students. The summary materials and presentations from the lectures will be distributed through the participating students to several other secondary schools in the area, enabling us to reach at least 5000-6000 people with our program.
The topics of the completed lectures were:
-
Family background and poverty
-
Somatic and mental health issues
-
Drug addiction and alcoholism as causes of poverty
-
Illiteracy and undereducation
-
Discrimination as a cause of poverty
-
Natural disasters and other environmental impacts
-
