Hungarian doctors are working hard in Ethiopia

18/05/2023

On Monday morning at 8 AM, the members of the medical mission started their work at two different locations. The ENT specialists began their work at the Yekatit 12 Hospital, while the ophthalmologists were at the Melenik II Hospital in Addis Ababa. The program started with hospital tours and mapping out the operating block, followed by health screening tests.

In the past three days, surgeries have already been performed. The ENT specialists have completed four successful operations, involving local residents and placing a strong emphasis on knowledge and experience transfer.

The ophthalmologists have carried out numerous screening tests so far. Their work is not easy, as there are many patients and very few local medical colleagues. They are working alongside an optometrist who is currently studying ophthalmology and eagerly receiving practical training from the Hungarian specialists.

Aside from their medical work, the team has also taken the time to explore local attractions. The doctors have already visited a traditional Ethiopian restaurant, where they had the chance to observe the original coffee roasting process. During their city walks, they also experienced the kindness and friendliness of the local people.
