We have launched a medical mission to Ethiopia. On May 13, 2023, a medical mission organized by our association and the Africa Research Institute of Óbuda University will depart for the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. During the two-week trip, six hungarian doctors will assist their local colleagues.

The team members include ophthalmologists Dr. Zsuzsa Balogh and Dr. Andrea Pálffy, as well as ENT specialists Dr. Nelli Nepp, Dr. István Bartku, and Dr. Róbert Késmárszky. Dr. Krisztina Tóth, an anesthesiologist, will support the work of the ENT specialists. The doctors' mission was requested by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health through the Hungarian Embassy in Ethiopia. The Embassy has provided invaluable assistance in preparing the mission and will continue to support the team during their stay.

On May 6, a training session was held for the doctors, organized by the Africa Research Institute of Óbuda University. Dr. János Besenyő, the founder and head of the Institute, welcomed the participants, followed by Dr. Marianna Kármán, an Africa researcher, who introduced Ethiopia, highlighting its key geographical, cultural, religious, and linguistic features, as well as safety considerations. After a pleasant lunch, the team was supported by Dr. Krisztina Tóth, a mental health expert.

During the two-and-a-half-hour training, the mission participants discussed various topics that will help them navigate their work in Ethiopia, a culture very different from Central Europe. The main sponsor of the medical mission to Ethiopia is the Hungary Helps Agency.
