Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School in Pap Village Joins the "Pass it Back, Bro!" Mobile Recycling Campaign

Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School in Pap Village has also joined the "Pass it Back, Bro!" mobile recycling campaign! In the past few days, we have received more than 70 used mobile phones from the leadership and students of Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School in Pap as part of the "Pass it Back, Bro!" mobile recycling campaign.

The school's students and staff have contributed to saving the habitat of the Congo's primates. The used devices were handed over to the Secretary General of the Jane Goodall Institute yesterday.

And how is the conservation of mountain gorillas or bonobos' habitats connected to the recycling of used mobile phones (and tablets, GPS devices, etc.)? Here's how: these devices contain metals (such as coltan, gold) that are primarily mined in the regions of our planet where these endangered species live, specifically in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and the western regions of Uganda. The mountain gorilla is listed as "critically endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, meaning it is virtually on the brink of extinction. Bonobos are also an endangered species, found only in part of Central Africa.

The mining of metals required for digital devices severely threatens the habitats of both mountain gorillas, bonobos, and other primates (such as chimpanzees). By recycling mobile phones and other digital devices, the need for mining in the habitats of these primates can be reduced, thereby creating a better chance for their survival.

And of course, Planetrise Team is also helping, so feel free to reach out to us!

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the leadership, students, and parents of Kölcsey Ferenc Primary School in Pap for their conscientious efforts in participating in the campaign!
