The Planetrise Assocation in Antarctica

02/02/2023

Péter arrived to Antarctica the day before yesterday! The exciting journey, which started on January 24th, began with flights from Budapest to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Buenos Aires, and from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. From Ushuaia, the adventure continued aboard the Quark Expedition ocean liner through the Drake Passage to Antarctica. As the ship left the port of Ushuaia, a pod of dolphins accompanied them, and later, whales greeted the travelers' arrival.

Fortunately, it's summer in the Southern Hemisphere, so in the northern parts of Antarctica, Péter will experience temperatures around 0 to minus 10 degrees Celsius, along with winds, snow, and ice. In the interior of the continent, however, temperatures generally drop to minus 20 degrees Celsius. But the penguins are unfazed by the harsh weather, as in the winter months, they endure temperatures as low as minus 60 to minus 70 degrees Celsius.

Péter traveled to the frozen continent for climate research, focusing on studying the impacts of climate change in the polar regions. Among his companions are researchers, filmmakers, and regular tourists. The experiences from the expedition will be used for further research purposes.

Péter is also filming the journey, and the documentary will be released soon!
