Support Our Swimming Pool Construction Project in Western Uganda, at Lake Bunyonyi

20/07/2024

Every year, 40 people drown in Lake Bunyonyi in Western Uganda. To address this, we've launched a project in collaboration with the Planetrise Foundation, the Planetrise Association, the Jane Goodall Institute, the MÖL - Hungarian Volunteer League, and supported by Hungary Helps.

Of course, the project is being implemented with the help and agreement of the local community, as it would not be effective without their involvement.

The goal is to create a fenced swimming pool that provides safety for children and where swimming lessons can be held, ideally with the help of a local coach.

The planning and material procurement took place in May-June. By early July, the construction of the circular dock began. The constructed structure is designed to meet the goal, and soon swimming lessons can start. The project manager for the construction is Wiberforce Wama, who recruits and supervises the local workers. We are deeply grateful and thankful to him!

We hope that after the establishment of the swimming team, the first Ugandan water polo team can also be formed. Exciting challenges ahead!
