Visit to Child Legacy, Malawi

05/09/2016

During their trip to Malawi, members of our association visited the local project of Child Legacy. The project is in need of volunteers, whom we can send through our organization. We are primarily looking for doctors and professionals who are interested in engaging in agricultural activities.

The Child Legacy program has been operating in Malawi since 2008 and is essentially a complex of institutions. At its core is a hospital, which includes maternity, ophthalmology, and general medicine departments. In addition, the institution functions as an educational and demonstration center, where practical (mainly agricultural) training and courses are conducted for the local population in collaboration with local farmers. They also organize informational lectures for expectant mothers on infant care.

What makes the institution particularly interesting is that it is completely self-sufficient: they generate their own electricity and produce their own food, following the principles of organic farming. The entire agricultural framework necessary for the program's food production was developed and implemented by our old friend, Afshan Omar.
