Planetrise Association: We Opened Our Africa Exhibition

18/01/2018

Our association's guest, Miss Malawi, Cecilia Khofi, the beauty queen of Malawi in Africa, gave several presentations this week as part of our "Discover the World!" project in some primary and secondary schools in our county (Kisvárda, Győrtelek, Fehérgyarmat, Mátészalka, Géberjén), which you can read more about in our previous article.

On Thursday, Cecilia joined us in Kisvárda as the guest of honour at the opening of our Africa exhibition, held at the Conference Centre as part of the "Discover the World!" project. As previously mentioned in several of our articles, the photographs on display – showcasing everyday life in Malawi – were taken by orphaned children from the Jacaranda Foundation in Malawi..

As we reported continuously during autumn 2017, one of our members, Ilona Asztalos, undertook a six-week mission to teach basic photography at a school run by the Jacaranda Foundation in Malawi. To ensure the success of the project, we donated cameras to the Foundation, which Ilona used to teach the orphaned children how to take photos. The children embraced the opportunity and took many impressive photographs, giving us a vivid glimpse into the daily lives, culture, and simple lifestyle of the Malawian people.
With this exhibition, our aim is to broaden visitors' understanding of distant cultures and to provide answers to questions people in our county might have about developing countries.

After 1st February, the exhibition will become a travelling display, visiting various parts of the county and the country.

We would like to express our gratitude to Cecilia Khofi, Miss Malawi, for accepting the Planetrise Association's invitation to Hungary!

We also thank Dr Miklós Seszták, Minister for National Development, for becoming the main patron of our event and honouring the opening with his personal presence.

Thank you to Tibor Leleszi, Mayor of Kisvárda, for supporting the realisation of the event and providing the venue.

We are grateful to László and Ágnes Százvai, without whom this event could not have taken place.

Thanks to András Simon for the audiovisual setup.

We thank Róbert Bakos for fully organising and coordinating the lecture series held in the Szatmár-Bereg region.

And of course, thanks to the members of the Planetrise Association, who supported the programme not only physically and morally but also with their financial contributions!
